The missing strip

A saw removes a strip of material. That width is the kerf. It belongs in a cutting plan.

Kerf = material removed

Count the cuts

Three 100-millimetre pieces from a long board need three separating cuts if each piece is cut free.

3 pieces · 3 cuts

Budget the material

With a measured 3-millimetre kerf, allow 300 plus 9 millimetres, before any extra trimming allowance.

300 + 3 × 3 = 309 mm

Use the real setup

Cut counts depend on the layout and usable factory edges. Measure your blade kerf on a scrap and plan each cut.
